Hospice Care for Alzheimer’s Disease

Because Patients and Families Come First

INSPIRATION HOSPICE IS THE BEST HOSPICE FACILITY FOR ALZHEIMER’S OFFERING CARE TO PATIENTS WHEN THEY NEED IT THE MOST

Alzheimer’s patients often need more care, compassion, and skilled attention as compared to an average hospice patient. Hospice providers help the patient and his loved ones understand what to expect in the end stage of Alzheimer’s.

The early signs of Alzheimer’s start with memory problems which progress to trouble speaking, difficulty in remembering names, inability to use the bathroom, increased infections and more!

Watch out for the following signs that may suggest the patient need hospice care.

  • Difficulty eating and swallowing food
  • Weight loss of more than 10% in the past six months
  • Two or more episodes of serious infection in the past six months
  • Skin pressure ulcers that are not healing properly

Alzheimer’s refer to an irreversible progressive brain disorder that destroys memory, thinking skills, and other important mental functions. End-stage Alzheimer’s leads to the inability to carry out even the simplest tasks.

Hospice care provides an added level of care and support to the patient and his caregivers. It is the right option for patients with Alzheimer’s as it focuses on their comfort and dignity rather than aggressive medical treatment.

+

To begin hospice for Alzheimer’s a patient should have a life expectancy of 6 months or less which should be certified by a physician. Once the hospice care begins, the patient and his family have 24*7 on-call access to hospice staff.

This is Why We Do What We Do

I need to update my review based on a very recent, very personal experience with Inspiration. My father in law was diagnosed with leukemia 6 weeks ago. They started by sending out an AMG provider Jenn Griswold and putting him on home health. They were so helpful. The entire team was great. Then, last week he took a turn for the worse and we made the decision to transition to hospice. Every single person from the patient liasons, Director of Nursing, nurses, music therapist, social worker, were life savers. Wendy, Jayme, Mike, Carrie, April, Julie, Keric, Jenn, thank you. Words can’t simply express how much your support has meant to our family. Bob’s death was truly beautiful because of all of you. We felt at peace, he was comfortable, and died surrounded by love, family, and the beautiful music of the harp. I can’t imagine what we would have done without all of you. ❤️

Inspiration Hospice took such great care of my dad during the last few days of his life, that I knew when it was time for Mother, I would of course use them again. In hindsight, I wish I had not waited so long. The caring help they provided her was heaven sent. From the nurses, to the social worker, the chaplain and the aides, we felt supported and even more importantly, my mother was comforted. When a nurse will sit and talk with you for three hours, holding your hand or rubbing lotion on your feet, that is genuine caring. Once she started into the active dying process, they were only a call away. Several kind people came to make sure the facility knew what to do to follow through and keep her comfortable. She had the most peaceful passing. I will forever be grateful to Inspiration!

I can not even begin to express how appreciative my family is for the care Inspiration gave my loved one!! We didn’t want to go hospice but I discovered we should’ve done this earlier. That is my biggest regret!
The volunteers and staff are so loving and caring and supported us the whole way. Thank you Thank you
